Yevgen Prymachenko - The Modern David

Modern David is an allusion to the striking David by the Italian Renaissance master Michelangelo Buonarotti, which Prymachenko had an opportunity to see live during his visit to Florence. Having explored the statue’s plastic form, with its marble figure brimming with life and power, Prymachenko recreates the idea of a human figure in his recognizable style.

Departing from the conventional imagery and reenvisioning the Old Testament narrative of the battle between David and Goliath, from which the former comes out victorious, Prymachenko depicts Ukraine’s present wartime experiences. Despite every challenge and unfavourable circumstance, our soldiers and civilians alike have great resources to fight and the fortitude that will lead to our victory.
